History
Founded in 1989, Petrotechnics has become the world leader in transforming the efficiency and effectiveness of frontline operations in hazardous process industries.
The founder, Phil Murray takes up the story, "historically hazardous process industries have been extremely good at planning and developing production process, however for many years the critical area of work execution had been neglected, with operation process controlled and governed by essentially a paper based triplicate approach. It occurred to me that industry could be transformed by using technology to link people and process and this fresh approach could contribute to greater efficiency and safety with improved operational expenditure".
The major breakthrough for the organisation came in 1998 when Petrotechnics was asked by BP to provide a pilot "work execution" solution for their North Sea ETAP field. This was an opportunity for Petrotechnics to put the theory into practice with a major North Sea Oil & Gas Operator. The results exceeded the expectations of all involved with BP subsequently implementing the Integrated Safe System of Work (Sentinel Pro) solution across 29 offshore installations with training for 4,500 offshore workers. This large scale transformation was delivered on time and on budget. Following the implementation of the Sentinel Pro, BP experienced a three fold improvement in safety performance.
Phil continues, "These credentials provided other operators, in what is a traditionally conservative industry, with the confidence to transform their approach to work control in their frontline operations".
During 2001, Shell UK Exploration & Production implemented Sentinel Pro across their North Sea operations which included 24 facilities and training for 3,500 technicians and operations personnel. Many other Operators have followed, with Petrotechnics Sentinel Pro now the solution of choice within oil & gas and hazardous process industries.
Mark Carne, Head of BG Groups European & Central Asian operations has gone on record as saying, "the great thing about the implementation of Petrotechnics systems is that it's good business sense in every dimension: it improves the way we work, it reduces costs and most importantly it also makes things safer. It's simply the smart thing to do".
The benefits of Petrotechnics approach are now well recognised with over 28,000 frontline workers managing work execution at over 180 locations including onshore & offshore facilities within the oil & gas and process industries, in 17 countries and across 5 continents.
Further recognition has followed, with Petrotechnics winning a series of awards including:
Phil concludes, "delivery is of course dependent on the Petrotechnics Team, a truly exceptional group of people with between them hundreds of years experience in industry and a group that really understand the issues our clients are facing. Through the team we will continue to apply business knowledge, creative thinking and integrity to everything we do".
"The success of Petrotechnics has been based on People, Process and Technology and this will continue into the future".
