No-one at the Future of the North Sea Conference was under any illusions – smaller fields, aging assets, complex interconnected infrastructure, intense competition for capital, arguably a “lower for life” oil price and high costs. Such clarity and honesty about the scale of the challenge was refreshing. So was the attitude that this is simply part of doing business in the UKCS. Obstacles to overcome in order to reach substantial technical and commercial prizes.
