Petrotechnics $1 million Middle East contract

Petrotechnics, the global leader in transforming the efficiency and effectiveness of frontline operations in the oil and gas industry, has announced the first deployment of its electronic integrated safe system of work (ISSOW) solution in the Middle East. The deal, worth in excess of $1million over the course of the next two years, will see the Aberdeen-based company install its Sentinel PROTM solution across 11 offshore platforms in the Gulf as well as onshore facilities for a US major based in Qatar.

Already used in over 85% of the North Sea and a leading solution in the oil and gas industry worldwide, Sentinel PROTM is a web-based safe system of work solution that manages frontline work execution by pulling together typically disparate procedures and legislative documentation, including risk assessment, isolations control and permit to work, into a single integrated system.

The contract marks a significant milestone for Petrotechnics in the Gulf and provides the foundation on which the company plans to build its burgeoning business in the Middle East. The first phase of the project, which is worth $600,000, is expected to go live by February 2010.

Iain Mackay, operations director at Petrotechnics, said: "A poor quality of risk assessment, low hazard awareness of the workforce and poor control of hazards are the main cause of the majority of incidents at the worksite. Sentinel PROTM incorporates our global experience of business process and effective work activity management, resulting in tangible safety and efficiency improvements. This contract recognises our ability to deliver quality and reliability as well as our capability to offer our customers innovative technology and business processes."

Petrotechnics employs 140 staff in the UK, has branch offices in Russia and Trinidad & Tobago and has built a team of 45 people in Houston, Texas, since opening an office in the city two years ago. It has corporate agreements in place with six out of the top 10 global oil and gas majors and boasts a market share of over 85% in the UKCS with 40% of the market in deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
