PROCESS SAFETY RISK – A COLLISION OF TWO WORLDS
The Process Safety community in our industry is currently focused on managing Process Safety Risk across the whole of the organization. One of the challenges in such an endeavor is achieving a common understanding of risk. To a Process Safety professional, risk is a mathematical construct based on defined scenarios, events, and consequences. The reliability of prevention and mitigation barriers can be modeled based on manufacturers’ data and industry statistics. The resulting risk pathways are accurately predicted after a lot of number crunching. In other words, clean, predictable, tangible.
